Back to the Future: The Mesopotamian Agony Returning to the future — this is how I see our path, following in the traces they left for us. I sought to turn the hands of the clock into two cuneiform nails, pointing back to our memories, to the genes embedded within us that make us love those who built a civilization for us in ancient times. Here we are, striving to live their dream, to return to the future they envisioned for us. They left us rare artifacts that serve as keys to understanding life, offering us a lifeline if we dive deeply into their world. From afar, I hear echoes carrying star charts discovered by our ancestors nearly 1,000 years B.C., charts drawn across the skies of a land that once overflowed with goodness and peace. On a clay tablet, I uncovered such a map, which I documented in my work. I continue to immerse myself in their thoughts, feeling a duty to share in my ancestors' legacy, to bring my work as a silent cry, an echo against the walls of history, shattering any wall they try to build over our memory, to let the world know: the enemy’s goal is not just oil — it is something far greater. Their goal is to erase our memory, to make our people struggle for sustenance, forgetting everything in our archives. Every clay tablet or seal, even those mere centimeters in size, they approach with reverence. Our responsibility now is to carry forward the legacy given to us, even if we cannot reach the level they achieved. At the very least, our duty is to preserve it — for this is the least that faithfulness demands. #Zainab Abdulkarim 09.05.2017 #ZainabAbdulkarim #zainabart #artist #zainab_art #museums #bildekunstner

Back to the Future: The Mesopotamian Agony

Returning to the future — this is how I see our path, following in the traces they left for us.
